    About

My name is Tim Fischer and I am a Milan/Berlin based computational designer and software developer with an M.Sc. in Architecture and Urban Design from Politecnico di Milano.

Since 2014 I have been consulted by a variety of clients and been part of a wide spectrum of projects, covering small prototyping, architectural design, structural analysis and optimization, website design, and plugin development.

In 2021, I published a research paper on 'Responsive Systems in Seismic Computational Design'; specifically architectural early design phase implementation. The published work is now available within the IASS conference proceedings...

Besides design, I have a passion for making tools for designers, engineers, and fabrication. I developed various C# scripts and plugin components and worked full-time as a backend developer for over a year.

My goal is to create innovative and performance-oriented solutions for various challenges in AEC, software development, automation, algorithmic solutions, agent-based exploration, carpentry and fabrication.

I am always interested in consulting and collaboration proposals, please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.

Background

Computational design has been my passion and profession since 2013, when I discovered Grasshopper for Rhinoceros 3D at Archip in Prague. This software amazed me with its ease and flexibility for creating parametric and generative designs. I also loved the open source nature of Grasshopper, which fostered a collaborative and responsive community of developers and users.

Since then, my skills and knowledge in computational design have grown significantly. I studied at Politecnico di Milano, where I worked with Salvatore and Alessandra in the Textile Hub. They helped me to apply computational design to architecture, especially in the field of lightweight structures. I also learned a lot from the lab work and the course that followed.

Besides design, making tools for designers, engineers, and fabrication is another passion of mine. I have developed various tools using C# scripting and plugin component development with Visual Studio. I have also improved my software development skills by working as a full-time backend developer for over a year. I have participated in several projects, such as structural analysis and optimization for a custom firepit design, website design for a consultancy company, and plugin development with the Parametric Camp community.

My goal is to use computational design to create innovative and performance-oriented solutions for various challenges. I want to combine my experience in carpentry, where I have preserved and rebuilt many valuable pieces of art and history, with my expertise in automation, algorithmic solutions, agent-based exploration and robotic construction. I want to focus on the design decisions that matter, while also embracing the new possibilities of computational design.

You can find examples of the tools and outcomes of my work at the bottom of the homepage and more in depth in the project pages.
